Google to let people pay using their faces

People could soon be able to pay for things using
their face.
Google is testing out digital wallets which do not even
require the user to take their Android smartphone
out of their pocket.<(>Instead the payment will be hands-free, with facial
recognition used to validate any transaction

Google product manager Pali Bhat said: "Imagine if
you could rush through a drive-thru without reaching
for your wallet, or pick up a hot dog at the ballpark
without fumbling to pass coins or your credit card to
the cashier.
"This prompted us to build a pilot app called Hands
Free that we're now in the early stages of testing."
A small number of Silicon Valley food outlets are
involved in the trial, including McDonald's and Papa
John's.
The restaurants use Bluetooth and Wi-Fi to detect
when a customer has Hands Free payment
technology enabled on their phone.
When a person wants to pay, they simply tell the
cashier: "I'll pay with Google."
The cashier then asks for the persons initials, and
uses the picture added to your Hands Free profile -
which appears on their terminal - to confirm you are
who you say you are.
Google is also experimenting with using cameras in
stores, so that people can pay without having to be
approved by a cashier.
Mr Bhat said: "At select stores, we’re also in the early
stages of experimenting with visual identification so
that you can breeze through checkout even faster.
"This process uses an in-store camera to
automatically confirm your identity based on your
Hands Free profile picture.
"All images captured by the Hands Free camera are
deleted immediately."
The system is currently being trialled with a select
group of users, but could be rolled out across the
world.<( />
