Being a marketing manager has been named the top
job in the UK in 2015.
Marketing managers can earn an average of £47,000
a year and are in high demand as the UK's economic
recovery picks up pace, a new survey suggests.
In second place is finance manager, followed by
mechanical engineer.
The list was put together by jobs website Glassdoor ,
and was drawn up using three factors average annual
base salary, the number of job openings and career
opportunities, which takes into account chances of
promotion. All of the jobs listed were given a ranking
out of 5.
The number of job openings per job title represents
the total number of jobs posted to Glassdoor in the
three months to the end of January.

Marketing managers are in demand as the UK's
economic recovery spurs demand for people with
marketing skills.
"While marketing managers don’t earn the highest
salaries of jobs in our list, they have the second
highest career opportunities rating. Marketing
Manager is also a role that can work in almost any
industry sector, from financial services and
consumer goods, to motor and technology," says
Glassdoor.
Marketing managers' daily tasks might include
writing copy, approving images, measuring success
and making customer-focussed decisions. A key part
of the role is to understand current and potential
customer behaviour, as well as develop the
marketing plan for a product or brand.

The role of a finance manager can vary enormously,
but key tasks may include managing a company's
financial accounting, monitoring and reporting
systems, producing accurate financial reports to
specific deadlines and managing budgets.
Finance managers earn good money and there is a
healthy level of job openings. They are also needed
by almost any company big enough to have a finance
department, so the appeal is very broad. It’s a job
that is less susceptible to economic peaks and
troughs than careers in sales and business
development, for example. There is also a clear line
of progression throughout a career.

This is the branch of engineering concerned with the
design, construction, and operation of machinery.
It's a manufacturing role that has a high career
opportunities rating, Glassdoor says. Activity in the
manufacturing sector is picking up pace in the UK,
with the CBI reporting increased confidence amongst
manufacturers.
There are various sectors that need mechanical
engineers, such as automotive, aerospace and
transport. To get into mechanical engineering, you
need some form of engineering degree and a
postgraduate qualification is often useful.

Career Opportunities Rating: 3.3
Key responsibilities are leading and guiding a sales
team. It can be a tough job - a sales manager's tasks
often include assigning sales territories, setting
quotas, mentoring the members of his/her sales
team, assigning sales training, building a sales plan,
and hiring and firing sales people.
In large companies, sales quotas and plans are
typically established at the executive level and a
manager's main responsibility is to see to it that sales
people meet those quotas.
